The concept that we must always make investments trillions of {dollars} to assemble a large area umbrella to defend our planet from the solar is preposterous. It might be too costly, come too late and threat “termination shock” in case of a significant malfunction or accident.

If NASA or different area businesses transfer ahead to spend tens of millions for a pilot, maybe it must be named the Icarus Venture for its hubris.

We have to get actual, create consensus on the bottom that the local weather problem is severe, and construct out already current options to the issue proper right here on Earth.

Re “Parents Help Three Evicted Migrant Families Find New Homes” (information article, Feb. 5):

One can really feel nothing however admiration for the humanity of these Brooklyn residents who gave sanctuary to households battered by harrowing migration experiences. By specializing in the person, reasonably than on the combination, we sidestep a core query: Are there limits to what the current damaged nationwide and municipal techniques can deal with?

Even with one of the best intentions, reform, worldwide agreements and correct resourcing will take time. World immigration patterns have shifted and put strain on not solely our legal guidelines and talents, but in addition on our ethical obligations. There may be an infinity of struggling on this world; the right way to tackle it is part of the disaster of our age.
